SN Fam Trip to Brussels

A Fam trip is a Travel Agent term for Familiarisation trip. It's basically a freebie (something which is very far and few between these days!!!). It is hosted by the airline, hotel or tourist area where you are visiting to help sell that particular product or destination.

This day trip was hosted by Bob Payne at SN Brussels who has been in the industry for years as the airline Representative for Sabena Belgian airlines (now SN Brussels Airlines). There were about 10 of us in total from different branches of the company I work for.

We flew on 15 May 2007 from Manchester and arrived in Brussels around 1100. We took the train from the airport to the Centre which takes about 25 minutes and are very frequent.

Unfortunately it rained most of the day so we did not wander as much as we would have liked. Although we did plenty of Chocolate shopping!!!!! I know Belgium is famous for chocolate but even I as a chocolate lover could not quite believe how many chocolate shops there were.

The main Central Square has lots of cafes and bars and we had lunch at the King Juan Carlos Restaurant in the main square. The main square is huge and has lots of magnificent buildings.

We made the mistake of buying a few very large bottles of Belgian Beer in the supermarket and then realised as we were on the train back to the airport that we could not take it back because of the liquid ban!!!! So we all had to drink up very quickly and people on the train must have thought we were all alcoholics!!!!!

We really enjoyed the day and as Brussels or even Belgium is somewhere I had never been, I would like to go back and explore a bit more. The prices seemed to be about the same as the UK for food and drink and the currency is Euro.

We travelled out to Brussels on their B Light Fare in economy which is good if your plans are definite and not going to change as this is non refundable and changes permitted at a fee. We travelled home in B Flex which is their flexible fare, free to change if available and free to cancel before departure. You can also have 20 kilos of checked luggage on B Light and 30 on B Flex.

I would definitely recommend Brussels as a destination for a day trip or weekend break. Click here to for more information.
